Dental hygiene is a requirement, however, not recognised in the rural villages where our children live. World Orphan Fund,(WOF) are now working with the leading dental clinics in the city of Cambodia to ensure all 105 of our children ranging from the ages of 4 to 18 years were provided with dental treatment for the first time. The appointments uncovered most children suffering from gum infection and severe tooth decay. World orphan Fund are dedicated to ensure our children continue to receive annual dental check-ups at a minimum, and dental treatment is provided to our children who require more frequent follow-ups. 

One story that touched our hearts was Komray and his need for ongoing dental treatment. Komray is a 13-year-old boy who brings so much joy to the people who have the pleasure of crossing paths with him including myself. Sa Komray is one of the children in our sponsorship program. His father passed away when he was only a little boy and his mother is caring for him and seven of his siblings on her own. We first met Komray when he was 10 years of age and we have continued to support him and his family for the past three years. 

From our most recent visit we took Komray to the dentist where he needed to have two of his teeth extracted. Our visit also included our volunteers conducting detailed orphan audits. WOF provides audits to make sure all our children and their families are being best supported in all areas of need. We were able to speak with the children and their carers, and visit their homes to see their current living conditions, visit some of their schools to get an update on how they are going at school and we received updates on any dental and optical concerns they were having. Volunteers brought smiles to the children’s faces when we asked them what they wanted to be when they finish school, and what made them happy. This experience brought insight into what more we need to do for our children and ensure they continue to be looked after and raised with the best support they can be provided.
