Every year during the time of Qurban/Adhiyah our volunteer team from Australia make their way to the remote villages of Cambodia. It is here the sacrifice of animals is performed, the meat of which is distributed to local communities. Initially a program that took place in Cambodia, Qurban with World Orphan Fund has now extended to other countries in South-East Asia including Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar.
With WOF we ensure the best process is in place for the people in need in strict adherence with the Shari’ah. We also believe it is important for you as our sponsors to be part of the experience. For this reason, we keep our sponsors updated throughout the Qurban program with daily updates and live videos on our social media pages.
Your Qurban contribution consists of the following:
Only to the Most Needy
We distribute 5 kilograms of meat valued at $145.00 per family. As with all our projects, the team at WOF strives to reach out to the most remote communities who are in serious need of assistance, as their income and living standards are not as high as other parts of the country.
5 KG of meat for 5 months
To ensure your donations are best used with no waste of food and costs, we supply 5kgs of meat for each family, which lasts approximately 5 months. This is the amount of time whereby meat can be preserved effectively by the locals who have no or limited electricity; therefore, an excess supply of meat will not be fit for consumption resulting in waste.
WOF volunteers ensure the utmost care is taken when animals are selected, housed and then moved for slaughtering during Qurban. These are important processes to ensure Halal standards are upheld to the highest degree, with humane treatment of the animals during the entire process. Furthermore, WOF consistently prioritises the vegetation and wildlife population including cows and sheep. Cruelty to animals and inhumane living standards are not tolerated. After all, Halal standards embrace a duty to be kind.
